Supervet star Noel Fitzpatrick revealed he was “millimetres away from death” when he broke his neck after a horrifying fall at his home. The TV star opened up about the accident, which happened back in February 2020, revealing that he fell down the stairs and ended up snapping his neck due to the impact of hitting the wall at the bottom. He explained that at the time he wasn’t fully awake and accidentally stumble, causing him to hurtle down the stairs which led him to fracturing his C7 vertebra.

Recounting the terrifying moment to The Guardian , he recalled: “It was a profound wake-up call. Also in the physical sense, that I was millimetres away from death. Had the vertebra shifted more, apparently, the fatality rate from an asleep fall down 13 steps into a wall is not good”.

While it took him months to fully recover from the serious injury, the Channel 4 star insisted that it hasn’t slowed him down. Noel was able to return to work by mid-April, with the vet sharing that the accident has given him a wake-up call of how important life is. He shared: “I have to rationalise how I’m going to pass on what’s important to the next generation before I’m too old and incapacitated to do it.

I’m trying hard to create a mechanism by which that’s possible. It comes after Noel vulnerably opened up about his personal life as he admitted that he hopes to meet that special someone, but he feels “really awkward” around the issue of relationship. He told Ryan Tubridy on the latest episode of his podcast, titled The Bookshelf : “I couldn’t care about professor this or professor that, what I want is someone to love and who will accept me with my smelly socks on when I come back from a run.

I’m okay with who I am. “I always feel deeply inadequate and in surgery I’ve managed to sublimate that with, I guess, skill and knowledge – but in real life, I am still the 10-year-old who had never seen a girl. "The person who feels really awkward around the whole issue of, ‘Could you get to know me and still allow me to be me and could I make you the best that you can be by being with me?’”.
