David Corenswet - who plays Clark Kent/Superman in Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Superman film set for release next summer - hit the red carpet for the New York premiere on Wednesday. He was seen posing with the children of Reeve - the first actor to play Superman in a big-budget theatrical feature in 1978's Superman - at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City .



Reeve's children - Matthew, Alexandra and Will - appear alongside stars like Susan Sarandon and Glenn Close , with the film debuting in a limited release through Fathom Events on September 21 and 25. Corenswet was also joined on the red carpet by his Superman director James Gunn and Gunn's DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran. Corenswet was also joined on the red carpet by his Superman director James Gunn (right) and Gunn's DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran (left). Corenswet stepped out in a dashing grey suit, with a white dress shirt, grey tie, grey coat and grey dress shoes. He accessorized with a watch with a grey band, sporting a scruffy beard and completing his look with shiny black dress shoes.

Corenswet joins a long line of actors who have played the Man of Steel on the big screen, dating back to a 1948 movie serial starring Kirk Alyn. George Reeves starred in the first Superman feature film in 1951, but Christopher Reeve played the first true big-screen/major studio Man of Steel in 1978's Superman. He would reprise the role in Superman II, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, before parting ways with the franchise.

Reeve's life was turned upside down in 1995 when he was paralyzed from the neck down following an equestrian accident. He slipped into a coma and died less than a day later in October 2004 at just 52 years of age. Since then, Brandon Routh has played Superman in 2006's Superman Returns and Henry Cavil in 2013's Man of Steel, 2016's Batman v.

Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017's Justice League. Corenswet stepped out in a dashing grey suit, with a white dress shirt, grey tie, grey coat and grey dress shoes Christopher Reeve as the iconic Superman Corenswet becomes the next part of Superman's big-screen legacy when his new film debuts on July 11, 2025. Unlike most Superman films, this will eschew the traditional 'origin story' and focusing on the character in his mid-20s.

The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders (a.k.a.

Hawkgirl), Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El (a.k.a.

Supergirl), Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, one of the many Green Lanterns. The film will kick off Gunn and Safran's new DC franchise, followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set for release on June 26, 2026 .
