On Tuesday, Sept. 3, Summerville Elks Lodge No. 2719 donated $2,500 to The ARK of SC, a local Alzheimer’s respite care facility in Summerville.

The donation will support The ARK’s operational and administrative expenses and assist in financing its annual holiday gathering for clients and caregivers. This contribution was made possible through the profits of the Lodge’s spring golf tournament. In addition, the Lodge has approved an additional $500 to be donated to The ARK during the holiday season.

The check presentation occurred at The ARK of SC, 502 W. 5th St. in Summerville.

Present were five Elks Lodge members and two staff members from The ARK. The Summerville Elks Lodge continues to play an active role in fundraising for various local charitable causes. In the 2024-25 Elks year, funds from the spring golf tournament have been distributed to various organizations, including $10,000 for scholarships, $3,000 to the Elks National Foundation (ENF), $1,000 for veterans’ support and $1,000 for youth activities.

The Alzheimer’s Committee, specifically The ARK of SC, was allocated $3,000 to help fund its services for those affected by Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. The ARK of SC offers services for families dealing with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. These services include adult respite care programs, caregiver consultations, support groups and community learning programs.

Through initiatives like The Noah Project, The ARK also provides Alzheimer’s support services, staff training and resources to rural and urban areas, and training for law enforcement and first responders on Alzheimer’s-related issues.
