Style shoot: From Marseille to Hong Kong, Chanel’s cruise 2024-2025 show is a breath of fresh air, with seaside vibes and tweed suits highlighting both the hip and gritty nature of the collection

The collection reflects the innovative touches of former creative director Virginie Viard, and is an acknowledgement of her impact on the house.

The collection reflects the innovative touches of former creative director Virginie Viard, and is an acknowledgement of her impact on the house Chanel landed in Hong Kong for the long-awaited restaging of its cruise 2024-2025 show , which first took place in the French city of Marseille back in May. Tweed suits in pastel hues such as green, yellow and pink – a Chanel staple – were part of the line-up. But the range also reflected the seaside vibes of Marseille and Hong Kong, with fish and shell motifs drawn in a childlike pattern, prim-and-proper white lace dresses, and plenty of swimwear.

As former creative director Virginie Viard put it in the initial show notes, this collection was meant to represent “a breath of fresh air” for the brand, an energy that inspires our digital cover shoot this month. Highlighting the hip and grittier side of the collection, as well as the two cities it was shown in, it is a true tribute to Viard’s mark on the house, putting consumer-friendly pieces in conversation with Chanel’s historic legacy.
