Students showcase skills at engineering contest

Students from eight schools on Sunday tested their knowledge and ability to innovate in this year’s Faraday Challenge, an engineering contest hosted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology Brunei’s Young Professional Section. This year’s theme, “Mission to Mars V2,” added a fresh twist by integrating Micro:Bit line follower robots as a transport system, challenging students to showcase their programming skills. Throughout the event, students participated in hands-on activities, teamwork exercises, and presentations.

By incorporating Micro:Bit technology, the challenge simulated transport systems for a Mars mission, allowing students to apply practical engineering concepts while enhancing their problem-solving abilities. Awards were presented for outstanding performance, creativity, and technical excellence. Tanjong Maya Secondary School won first place, followed by Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait took second.



Meanwhile Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School earned recognition for their clear and engaging presentation. Officiating the event was Ir Dayangku Roselawati binti Pengiran Haji Halus, Honorary Chairman of Institution of Engineering and Technology, Brunei Darussalam Network Jevons Q Penaflor, Chair of IET Brunei Young Professionals Section, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success: “The Faraday Challenge exceeded our expectations. The innovative solutions and teamwork from all the participating schools were truly inspiring.
