Over 700 students from Tom Mboya University, who are destined to job opportunities in Germany, have been trained on prudent financial management. The students have also been enrolled in German language classes and are expected to travel to Germany from June 2025. An organization, known as 20X Entrepreneur, has embarked on training the students who are expected to access job opportunities through a joint venture between Kenya and German Governments.
The students are learning German language as a prerequisite to accessing the jobs. Lack of financial management skills has been identified as a major challenge facing employees in the job market. The 20X Entrepreneur Chief Executive Officer, Eunice Mburu, said many young people who get opportunities where they earn a lot of money may end up squandering the earnings.
She said the training was aimed at providing the students with entrepreneurial and financial management skills. “These students will go to Germany for job opportunities through the government programme. Big money job opportunities can easily lure youngsters to lavish lifestyles without investment.
We are training these students on prudent utilization of funds and entrepreneurship,” Mburu said. Mburu said the youth who utilize the knowledge gained from the training will boost remittances to the country from diaspora. “We want the students to embrace a savings culture and promote entrepreneurship and investment in Kenya.
This will also help to create jobs for Kenyans,” Mburu said. The students were also trained on how to identify opportunities and utilize them. The Principal of German Language Programme at Tom Mboya University, Irene Kwamboka, said the training was preparing the students for job market.
“We are soon releasing these students for the job market, which is full of challenges. This training has come at an opportune time and it will assist the students make prudent investment decisions,” Kwamboka said. Bill Owuor, one of the students, said, “What has stood out for me is the savings aspect.
The programme will shape our future lives,” said Owuor..
