1 2 3 Pune: A 20-year-old physiotherapy student from Kondhwa has filed a complaint against a man from Chinchwad, alleging he defrauded her of Rs5 lakh by falsely promising admission to a private college in Navi Mumbai. The complaint was lodged at Kondhwa police station on Sunday. According to police, the student met the suspect in 2023 at her physiotherapy college, located off Satara Road.
They became acquaintances and often discussed career opportunities in physiotherapy. The suspect convinced the victim that pursuing further studies at a reputed institution would significantly enhance her career prospects. He claimed to have strong connections with private colleges and assured her of admission to a prestigious institution in Navi Mumbai.
Trusting his promise, the student agreed and was asked to transfer money to his UPI account. Over a month, she made multiple transactions, amounting to Rs5 lakh. However, despite the payments, the suspect failed to secure her admission.
Upon realising she had been deceived, the student approached the police. An investigation has been launched, and authorities are tracing the suspect. Police have urged students to verify admission processes through official channels to avoid falling victim to such scams.
