The unnamed student was charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony, officials said. The student is accused of making the threat Monday. A Montgomery County Sheriff's school resource officer stationed at the school was advised of the threat, officials said.

The threat was made against the school and students and had been posted on social media, officials said. Deputies worked with district staff and began following up on leads. Officials determined almost immediately that the threat was not credible, officials said.

Deputies located the juvenile and then filed the charge. Due to his age, he was processed, issued an appearance ticket and released to a family member, officials said. "Threats of any kind are taken seriously, undoubtedly the actions of all agencies involved, including staff of the Fort Plain Central School District, ensured the safety of all students and faculty during the time of the incident," sheriff's officials wrote in a release.
