On Monday, I met River Clyde Homes (RCH) staff and contractors at Neil Street in Greenock as they began preparations to pull down the derelict flats there that have been empty for several years. I’ve been in dialogue with RCH since 2020 about these flats and understand why it’s taken so long to get to this stage, so I’m pleased action is now under way. The following day I visited Kidology Nursery to meet staff and learn more about the business.
Staff spoke to me about how they much enjoy their job, and it was great to see how they’ve utilised the space, including outdoors, to support the children’s development and enjoyment. Thursday was particularly busy as I volunteered at Larkfield Guerrilla Garden in the morning, picking some of the crops I helped plant in the summer and moving wood chips across the site to what will eventually become their friendship garden. It was great to see the progress that’s taken place – and the peas were delicious! Later that afternoon, I attended Notre Dame High School’s Careers Fayre to speak to pupils about my job as a politician, but also the variety of jobs within politics.
Being a politician is one role, but there are so many people that support politicians to do their job well, including constituency staff, parliamentary staff and civil servants. I also had meetings with a range of other people and organisations including Logistics UK, the Scottish Government and the Communications Workers Union (CWU) regarding the low letterbox campaign and with the Chief Executive of Inverclyde Council..
