Amy Dowden was overcome with emotion on Lorraine as she discussed the upcoming milestone of celebrating one-year cancer-free this Saturday. The courageous ballroom ace, known for lighting up the Strictly Come Dancing stage, opened up about her abrupt exit from the show due to a serious foot injury. Lorraine Kelly expressed solidarity with Amy's tough journey, which has included overcoming cancer, hitting the chemo bell mark nearly a year ago, and simultaneously managing Crohn's disease.

Addressing Lorraine's concern, Amy fought back tears saying: "I'm heartbroken, I am going to do my best not to cry." Talking about her untimely end on Strictly, Amy stated, "I'm gutted it's ended this way. I feel I've let JB down.

After those words 'you've got cancer', this was my thing." Lorraine reassured her, eliciting comforting words: "It would have been so lovely if you'd have done that on the show, and I can see how upset you are, and of course you are." She added: "But you've not let anybody down.

We were just really worried about you, that was the thing because we know you've had cancer, you've been so astonishingly brave and you deal with Crohn's disease, you never moan about it and just get on with it." While Amy may be devastated to hang up her dance shoes, fans are relieved to know her injury is unrelated to past health concerns, reports Wales Online . Two weeks ago, Strictly fans were left in a state of shock when Amy was rushed to hospital as a "precaution" after falling ill post-performance.

The initial fear was that the pro dancer had collapsed behind the scenes after her routine on the live show. But now, Amy has disclosed that BBC bosses stepped up with their safety measures when she actually sustained an "insufficiency stress fracture" to her shin. As a result, and on doctors' orders to rest, she's been forced to bow out from this year's competition.

This setback comes as a fresh blow to the dancer who had already seen her spot in the 2023 edition slip away due to chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Touching footage showed Amy ringing the chemo bell, marking a poignant milestone virtually a year to the day. Reflecting on a turbulent year past, an emotional Amy spoke with Lorraine about the rough patches but also celebrated how much ground she's covered since then.

Wanting to lift spirits, Lorraine wrapped up the chat by presenting Amy with a luxury pamper hamper, cheekily reminding her: "You have to sit on your bum, misses, and just take care of yourself." Grateful, Amy "promised" to do just that and "thanked" the TV legend for "all of her support". Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1, from 9am.
