New Delhi: Telugu choreographer Jani Master has found himself in hot water after being arrested on serious charges of sexual assault. The popular artist was set to receive the National Award for Best Choreography for his work in the 2022 film Thiruchitrambalam , starring Dhanush, during a ceremony in New Delhi on October 8.
However, in light of the ongoing investigation, the National Film Awards Cell has suspended his award. No National Award for Jani Master? The National Film Awards Cell released a statement confirming the suspension. They stressed on the seriousness of the allegations and the ongoing legal proceedings.
The statement read, “In view of the seriousness of the allegation and the matter being subjudice, the Competent Authority has decided to suspend the National Film Award of the Best Choreography for the Year 2022 to Shri Shaik Jani Basha for the film Thiruchitrambalam until further orders.” Additionally, the statement announced that Jani Master’s invitation to the 70th National Film Awards Function at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi has been withdrawn. The letter addressed to Jani continued, “Hence, the invitation extended to Shri Shaik Jani Basha for the 70th National Film Awards Function to be held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 8.
10.24 is hereby withdrawn.” Jani Master’s sexual assault case The controversy surrounding Jani Master escalated after a 21-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her for several years.
Disturbingly, she was a minor at the time of the alleged offences. The choreographer has been charged under relevant sections of the POCSO Act of 2012, which deals with the protection of children from sexual offences. In response to the charges, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has formed a panel to investigate the allegations against him.
