It wouldn’t be summer without strawberries , and while you can buy them all year round, they are classed as ‘in season’ from around May until September. However, it’s inexpensive and pretty simple to grow your own at home. Strawberries can grow in your garden , in hanging baskets, plant pots and even boxes on a windowsill, and according to one gardening enthusiast, there’s no better time to plant your own.

In a video , the gardening lover (@lawrencetiktok90) shared that “now is the perfect time to be planting strawberries” as he shares his recent purchase of everbearer strawberry plants. He claims that you can get up to an impressive 1 kg of fruit per plant. “These will go all the way through, giving you fruit all the way through the summer, right up until the autumn.

These are easy to grow, perfect for beginners, or novices,” the creator shared. “There’s nothing better than growing your strawberries, seeing them grow, and picking them as a little sweet treat throughout the summer.” The gardening enthusiast pointed out the price difference between growing your own and with these plants priced at £12 for 10; he has a point.

By planting these early, you could be saving yourself a lot of money in the future. People in the comments were quick to point out that they won’t be ready in time for summer. One wrote: “Strawberries don't usually fruit until after the first year,” while another added that it was “highly likely they won't produce fruit this year.

” However, according to the University of Minnesota , you can expect everbearing strawberries to take a few weeks to start flowering and an additional few before they produce fruit. It notes that the vegetative phase lasts around six months, depending on the climate and variety, affecting the fruit. Similarly, Plantin agrees that it takes around 2-3 weeks for leaves to emerge, and the plant can then start to flower in an additional 3-4 weeks.

It explains that “the vegetative phase lasts about six months, depending on the climate and strawberry variety.” They explained: “On average, it takes 60 to 90 days for a plant to mature from a seed to a delicious berry. The duration of the developing phase depends on the growing conditions you create.

“Pay attention to the temperature, light, watering, and fertilising. Most importantly, check the kind of berries you have and do a little research about species-specific needs. It will help you understand your green pet better.

“ So, it may be that the gardening lover is right and there’s no time like the present to get ahead on your strawberry planting. With millions of followers, many viewers followed in his footsteps and decided to order their own, sharing, “I just got mine and just planted them.”.
