Vadodara: A day after BJP Councillor Ashish Joshi sparred with the municipal commissioner over a choked stormwater drain in the city, work on cleaning up the water drain began on Tuesday. The civic body started clearing garbage from the Mahanagar area stormwater drain, and a motor was also placed there to pump out the water. "The work on clearing the drain has finally started, and I am thankful to the mayor who visited the spot and agreed to our requests that were not being heard by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials.

People were demanding to clean the drain," said Joshi, who had a heated argument with municipal commissioner Dilip Rana during the board meeting in the VMC on Monday. Joshi alleged that he had requested the civic officials several times over the last three months to clean up the stormwater drain. Rana was explaining the action to be taken by the VMC, but he objected to Joshi's tone of talking during the meeting and lost his cool.

"The tender process is on, and it wouldn't take more than a month to do the work. A new drain along the highway is also planned. I assured people that the issue would be solved," Rana told media persons.
