Storm Darragh chaos causes road closures cancelled events and flooding

More than 120 flood alerts and 35 flood warnings across the county were in place until Monday morning, with warnings that water levels on the River Severn could overflow and remain high until Wednesday (December 11).

More than 120 flood alerts and 35 flood warnings across the county were in place until Monday morning, with warnings that water levels on the River Severn could overflow and remain high until Wednesday (December 11). People were advised to avoid low-lying land and paths by the River Thames and the River Pang. Around the River Pang, affected areas stretch from Pangbourne through Tidmarsh before ending in Bucklebury.

The alert around the River Thames covers Shiplake and Henley-on-Thames, as well as parts of Cookham. Commuters were also warned to expect cancellations and delays to train services from Reading into London. Over the weekend, drivers saw several roads impacted by fallen trees due to the storm.



One road in particular, Beech Lane, was closed in both directions on Saturday (December 7). Reading Buses warned passengers it had to resort to a diversion as a result. Warning people online, the travel company wrote: “Due to a fallen tree blocking Beech Lane, Little orange 19b is on diversion in both directions.

“We are unable to serve any bus stops on Beech Lane. We apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your patience.

” Students at several different primary schools in Bracknell were due to perform at the Primary School Carol Concert with Vocalese on Saturday, December 7. It was due to take place at Bond Square in The Lexicon, based near The Avenue Car Park. However, The Lexicon announced on December 5 that a decision had been made to cancel the event.

A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: "Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, the tough decision has been taken by Bracknell Forest Council and The Lexicon to cancel the Primary School Carol Concert with Vocalese, which was due to take place on Saturday, December 7 in Bond Square." Organisers also made the difficult decision to cancel Bracknell park run which was due to take place on Saturday, December 7. A spokesperson for the event said "With another storm due to arrive tonight bringing strong winds and dumping more rain on saturated ground we are cancelling parkrun this weekend.

"To get your park run day fix other local events may still be running, so please check their website and social media before heading off. "Enjoy your weekend and hopefully see you at Bracknell park run next weekend." The events team at Dinton Pastures also made the difficult decision to cancel the Dinton Santa Dash due to the extension of the Yellow Weather Warning.
