BATON ROUGE, La. -- State Fire Marshal deputies have arrested a Stonewall man for attempting to defraud the insurance company by intentionally setting fire to his pickup truck. Thomas Tyler, 44, allegedly admitted to SFM deputies that he set his 2024 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck on fire with the intention of collecting insurance money.
Deputies booked Tyler into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center Monday on a charge of arson with intent to defraud. The arson happened just after 4 a.m.
Jan. 11 on Interstate 49 at the Mansfield exit. DeSoto Fire District No.
8 firefighters found the pickup truck engulfed in flames when they arrived. SFM deputies also responded and questioned Tyler. At the time, he claimed he tossed a cigarette out the window and it ignited a gas can in the bed of the truck.
During the investigation, Tyler recanted his original story and confessed to the crime, the state fire marshal's office said..
