He arrived in Sydney yesterday morning and faced court, where his extradition to the territory was approved. The man is accused of committing numerous sexual offences against the alleged victim between 2018 and 2021 when the teenager was in his care. His charges include incest, persistent sexual abuse of a child under special care, sexual intercourse with a child, possessing child abuse material, and using a child for the production of child exploitation material.
The man was brought to the ACT this week. Picture supplied Arrest timeline The allegations were reported to police in 2021 after the man had moved to Spain. Two years later, a brief of evidence would be submitted to the territory courts and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
In September last year Interpol issued a red notice, a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition. The stepfather was subsequently arrested by Spanish authorities 10 days later. The ACT Magistrates Court, where the stepfather is set to appear on Friday.
Picture by Karleen Minney Last month, after the man "abandoned further appeals against his extradition", plans were made to bring him back to Australia. On Friday, an ACT Policing spokesperson said the matter had also been resolved with the assistance of the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department and the AFP's International Network and Specialist Operations Command. "ACT Policing urges any victims of sexual assault, including anyone who is aware of intimate images being shared without the subject's consent, to report these criminal activities." You can also submit an online report for historical sexual assault for incidents that occurred more than six months ago.
