The Pittsburgh Steelers have started off strong to begin the 2024 NFL season despite plenty of conversation surround the quarterback position. Another area, and one that has generated concern, is at wide receiver. Fans are fully aware at this point that trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers may have been one of the first mistakes of General Manager Omar Khan 's tenure.

Afterwards, the head of the front office wasn't able to pull off any kind of significant deal to acquire a partner-in-crime for George Pickens . The trade deadline is quickly approaching and the black and gold faithful are waiting for Khan to strike. It seems nearly impossible for Khan not to trade for a pass-catcher before, or at, the November 5th deadline, but there clearly has not been enough urgency in the area.

Fans will get a better idea of the overall need as the Week 9 bye approaches, but there's no doubt that even a small upgrade could help Pickens, and the group as a whole, elevate their play. Without many top options left, the Steelers still have a few that could be viewed as attractive. 1.

) Darius Slayton - New York Giants Suddenly, Darius Slayton could be the most prominent wide receiver left to acquire after Cooper Kupp seems to be remaining put and Christian Kirk's season-ending injury. Pittsburgh will get a great look at Slayton on Monday Night Football in Week 8, and he might be the small piece to the puzzle that Pittsburgh's offense needs in order to be a little more dynamic. Slayton is currently stuck behind Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson, while also being a free agent at the end of the season.

He is more of the traditional Steelers option, as he isn't as much of a financial burden as some of the options that were out there previously. Slayton still has a respectable stat line of 25 catches for 312 yards and a touchdown in 2024. 2.

) Jakobi Meyers - Las Vegas Raiders Would the Las Vegas Raiders really consider dealing another wideout after sending Davante Adams on his way? Sitting at 2-6, anything is possible for a team with a first-year head coach and no true answer at the quarterback position. Jakobi Meyers' stock went up in Week 8 after he hauled in six passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in his return from an ankle injury. His numbers are far better than Slayton's despite playing in six games.

He has 31 catches for 325 yards and two touchdowns. The bonus surrounding Meyers is that he is under contract through the 2025 season and the Steelers would get to have him as more than just a rental player. His name is definitely one to look out for; it's just a matter of whether the Raiders are willing to trade the top two wide receivers on their roster in the matter of a couple of weeks.

3.) 1 Of 2 Options On The New England Patriots The players above play on teams with little to no hope of making the playoffs and that's no different with the third organization that could be shopping assets. Both Kendrick Bourne and KJ Osborn could be playing for new teams in the coming weeks.

Bourne is a bit of a risk as he tore his ACL in October of 2023 and was just activated from the Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP) in early October. Osborn may be a better fit from a health perspective, but he is by no means a slam dunk, hauling in just seven catches for 57 yards and a touchdown in 2024. Both Bourne and Osborn are at the bottom of the New England Patriots' statistical categories for wide receivers, but the duo hasn't really gotten a fair shake in an ever-changing system with rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Khan may find that both are not really worth the risk compared to a potential reward. Steelers Seem To Have Already Missed Out On Most Attractive Options If one reads the list above and feels a little bit of disgust, it's likely justified. Pittsburgh didn't acquire Adams or Brandon Aiyuk, the Los Angeles Rams could start to make a run which will keep Kupp in town, and Kirk broke his collarbone .

It's not going swimmingly for the Steelers in regards to potential wide receiver trades. There could be another name or two pop up soon, but right now, it's slim pickings. This article first appeared on SteelerNation.
