Steam roller Betsy helped 'our Fred' launch charity appeal

Bolton steeplejack and steam enthusiast Fred Dibnah added his weight to a church appeal in June 1991. Fred Dibnah and Betsy, 1991 Worshippers at St Stephen and All Martyrs’ Church, Lever Bridge, had launched an aluminium cans appeal to boost their restoration fund. To help publicise the appeal, Fred fired up his beloved steamroller Betsy to crush a large pile of cans outside his home on Radcliffe Road watched by church members.
