State College’s Sam Huggins wins PIAA 3A gold, 7th state medal

The UNC signee and PennLive Swimmer of the Year captured a long awaited state title on Friday.

LEWISBURG — Sam Huggins has been close over the years. He was a state bronze medalist for the 200 freestyle as a sophomore. Last year, Huggins was the runner-up.

But a distance swimmer of Huggins’ caliber knows it’s not a sprint. The UNC signee curated a masterclass in the making over his career, and in the twilight of his tenure at State College, PennLive’s reigning Swimmer of the Year finally struck gold. Boys 3A 200 Free — Sam Huggins, state champion.
