The eclipse was only partial for most of the country, as the Earth's shadow covered part of the moon, and came on the night of a full moon. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight whilst casting a shadow on the Moon's surface. Clouds reportedly covered up the phenomenon but stargazers in Dorset were amazed by the sight.
