Standout Denton-area high school football players from last week's playoff games

All six Denton-area high school football teams that made the playoffs won their first-round games, thanks in no small part to several players stepping up with big-time performances. We round up some of the week's standout local players.

Cobbs played a crucial part in the Wildcats' 52-30 win over McKinney to open their playoff run in a game that Guyer led 45-0 before the Lions' late rally attempt. The junior standout notched 11 carries for 99 yards and three touchdowns alongside his typical key contributions in the defensive backfield. Caleb Fowler, OLB, Jr. Fowler made his mark during the Wildcats' Round 1 rout of McKinney as well with a strong performance to help lead the way defensively. The junior tied for the team lead with seven total tackles (five solo) alongside 1.

5 tackles for loss, one interception and a pass breakup. Tre'Vaughn Reynolds, RB, Jr. Reynolds helped lead the way in an explosive offensive effort for the Raiders as they built a 56-0 lead by halftime on their way to a 77-14 first-round win over Fort Worth Paschal.

Hiler helped fuel a dominant defensive performance for the Raiders in holding Paschal scoreless through the blowout first half before it got a pair of garbage-time touchdowns. The junior defensive back had two tackles and notched a pair of interceptions on the day, bringing him to a team-best five picks so far this season. Nathaniel Bruce, ATH, Jr.

Bruce made his impact felt all over the field for the Eagles as a standout contributor on offense, defense and special teams. The junior ran for two touchdowns and notched another score on a punt return while also tallying a team-best eight tackles from his typical defensive back spot during Argyle's 41-21 win over Frisco Emerson. Xavier Trotter, DL, Sr. Trotter bullied his way into the Emerson backfield time and again to help lead a strong defensive effort for the Eagles in pitching a second-half shutout of the Mavericks. The senior defensive lineman notched six tackles (five solo) and a team-leading mark of five tackles for loss to bolster efforts by junior linebackers Grayson Peschel and Max Bland, who had three stops for a loss apiece.

Alex Osterman, RB, Sr. Osterman helped lead the way for the Chaparrals offensively as they found a way to score just enough points against a stout defense to hold off Dallas Kimball for a 35-33 win. The senior running back racked up 15 carries for 140 yards and two touchdowns, breaking off long runs of 49 yards and 61 yards for his pair of scores that proved crucial in the victory.

Brock Temple, QB/DE, Sr. Temple made some crucial contributions both ways for the Chaps as well during their big playoff win over Kimball, helping the program reach Round 2 of the postseason for the ninth time in the last 10 years.

The senior tackled Kimball's ball carrier short on a fourth-down play to end its potential go-ahead drive late in the game and also threw for one touchdown. The entire defense The Bobcats' defense put on an impressive performance in their 24-14 playoff win over Quinlan Ford, limiting the Panthers to 231 yards of total offense and just one TD after their first drive of the game. Senior linebacker Haidyn Jones and sophomore linebacker Daniel Holt intercepted one pass apiece for key takeaways to help fuel the unit's dominant showing.

Krum's Ty Taber readies to throw the football against Quinlan Ford. Ty Taber, QB, Sr. Taber helped the Krum offense put up just enough points to capitalize on its defensive success on the way to the 24-14 win over Ford.

The senior quarterback went 12 of 24 for 150 yards and two touchdowns alongside rushing for a third score as junior running back Will Holland added 90 rushing yards and one receiving TD. Hunter Newman, WR/DB, Jr. Newman delivered one of the biggest scores of the game for the Bearcats as he broke off a late 91-yard touchdown run that helped put them ahead for good in a 36-32 upset win over top-seeded Mexia.

The junior's scoring run made it 30-26 early in the fourth quarter before another touchdown run by Dylan Hamblin extended the edge as Pilot Point fended off Mexia down the stretch. Pilot Point's Caden David runs with the football against Mexia. Caden David, FB, Jr.

David made several crucial plays for the Bearcats throughout their impressive upset win over Mexia after entering the contest as a significant underdog in the 3A Division I bi-district round bout. The junior scored a 17-yard rushing touchdown, caught a pass for a successful 2-point conversion attempt and returned a fumble to the end zone for two points on a point-after try. Success!
