, with music by Nite Life. Admission is $15 and includes lunch. “Come on out and wear green if you wish, enjoy dancing and socializing with friendly people,” the advertisement says.

Shayleen McConnell from the McConnell School of Dance said she is also encouraging people to wear green to Sunday’s performance. And since they’re focusing on having a “family-oriented event,” McConnell said they’re also providing face painting, activities and games for kids. “We’ll have continuous entertainment for the whole three hours on Sunday,” said McConnell, the owner and operator of the dance school.

“We’ll have the McConnell Irish Dancers from our Winnipeg and Brandon divisions performing,” McConnell said. “We are also bringing in a traditional Irish folk duo called the Domicans who are originally from Ireland. They will sing and play traditional Irish folk music and are fantastic.

” The performers will “wow the crowd,” with dances they’ve seen in “Riverdance” and “Lord of the Dance,” said McConnell, whose grandparents started the dance school in 1947. “Those are incredible shows that brought Irish dance to the world, because before that, it was just a traditional form of our culture that not a lot of people knew about. “We will have quite a bit of ‘Riverdance’-themed performances from our Winnipeg team that has travelled all around the world,” she said.

The event is called a céili, which is pronounced “kay-lee,” and means a social gathering with music. It is also a dance in itself, said McConnell, and one that they’ll have the crowd take part in. “So, with céili dancing, everybody gets up together all in a group, to meet people and introduce themselves to new friends.

You progress from one partner to the other, on and on. It’s a very social style of dancing and is a lot of fun,” said McConnell. Before the McConnell dancers take to the stage in Brandon on Sunday, they will be performing today in Killarney at the Shamrock Centre at 1:30 and 12:30 p.
