Per the forecast, there is an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms with breezy conditions carrying south winds from 17 to 24 mph, gusting as high as 47 mph.
Temperatures might reach a high near 77 degrees.For tonight, the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms continues, mainly before 9 pm, with a cloudy early evening that should then gradually clear up. The wind advisory remains effective from noon today till 7 PM CDT this evening, anticipating south winds "20 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph," which can result in downed tree limbs and possible power outages.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and to proceed with caution, especially when driving a high profile vehicle, as per the National Weather Service's release.Looking ahead, Thursday brings a 50% chance of showers with thunderstorms possibly hitting after 1 pm. Increasing clouds with a high near 63 are expected, while temperatures are set to dip around 53 degrees by the evening.
The pattern of heavy rain and storms is likely to continue through to Saturday, with the heaviest rainfall predicted across southeast Missouri into southwest Illinois. Flooding issues are a significant concern, with potential "moderate to major river flooding and significant flash flooding" as stated by the National Weather Service.The continued rainfall could pose serious challenges to the region, as the NWS warns the public about the possible conditions.
"The heaviest rainfall accumulations are expected across parts of southeast Missouri into southwest Illinois," the NWS forewarns. This level of sustained precipitation may lead to river levels rising quickly, and thus, residents living in flood-prone areas to need keep a vigilant eye on the weather updates.As we progress through the weekend, rainfall is expected to persist with an 80% chance of showers on Saturday night and a 40% chance of showers before 1pm on Sunday.
Conditions are, however, set to improve at the beginning of the next week, promising sunnier skies and milder temperatures..
