BELLFLOWER – St. John Bosco’s baseball team used a five-run second inning and solid pitching to dominate Santa Margarita in a 6-1 win Friday in a Trinity League game at St. John Bosco High.
The Braves (13-4, 5-1) took the rubber match of the three-game series after the teams split the first two meetings this week. Bosco is in sole possession of first place. They jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never let the Eagles (11-7, 3-3) put together a comeback bid.
Braves junior Noah Everly made his first start on the mound this season. He started off a little shaky with two walks and a wild pitch in the first inning, but got out of the jam and threw a scoreless frame in the first inning.Everly said he found out Thursday that he would get to make his first start.

That’s what I’ve been working on. They gave me the call, they said, ‘You want the ball?’ I said, ‘Hell yeah I want the ball.’ I got it done, gave them what I had.
”Everly pitched the first two innings and didn’t allow any hits or runs, although he did give up two walks, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. He also contributed at the plate. With a runner at third and two outs in the first inning, Everly, batting in the clean-up spot, roped a single to drive in James Clark, giving St.
John Bosco a 1-0 lead. The Braves extended their lead in the second inning against Eagles starter Brennan Bauer. With the bases loaded and no outs, Braves third baseman Aaron Garcia laid down a sacrifice bunt on a safety squeeze that scored Macade Maxwell from third.
After Clark was intentionally walked and Jhett Ohira flied out to right field, second baseman Jaden Jackson cleared the bases with a triple to center field that made the score 5-0 https://twitter.com/Chris_Camello/status/1910857525966360930“My approach was to get it in, hit it hard,” Jackson said of his clutch hit in the second inning. “That was the main goal, and then I ended up getting a barrel.
I needed to get a barrel, and I just wanted to win it for the series and for the team.”Everly capped the five-run inning with another RBI single. Jackson scored on the hit from third and the Braves led 6-0 after two innings.
Everly went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Jackson finished with a triple and three RBIs.St. John Bosco coach Andy Rojo spoke about the impact Everly had on this game and for this team.

Offensively, he’s gotten off these last four or five games, but he can also come in and pitch.”“So we kind of thought in reverse,” Rojo continued. “Instead of saving him for the end, we wanted to open him up as the DH.
We were trying to get two innings out of him, that’s exactly what he gave us, and then he was able to stay in the DH spot.”Leadoff hitter and shortstop James Clark also had a strong game for the Braves going 2 for 3 with a single, a double, a stolen base, a walk, and two runs scored. The Eagles couldn’t get much offense going.
They scored one unearned run on three hits. That lone run came in the top of the sixth inning after a throwing error by Bosco relief pitcher Aidan Dahlk allowed pinch-runner Liam Stuppy to score from second. The Eagles had a chance to cut into the deficit with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth but junior reliever Jack Champlin came in to retire the next two batters.
