
BELLFLOWER — Junior shortstop James Clark’s walk-off RBI single lifted the St. John Bosco baseball team to a 2-1 victory over Orange Lutheran in the program’s first home game at the school’s newly renovated field in Bellflower Tuesday night.“It means a lot,” said Clark, who is committed to Princeton.
“The team, we really worked hard this week getting prepared and just for it to all come through and get win, start of the series with a big win, it feels really good.”Clark, who transferred from Servite, went 4-4 with a double and a game-winning RBI single in the team’s Trinity League opener, which was Game 1 of this week’s three-game series against the Lancers.“I just trusted my preparation,” Clark continued.

They trailed 1-0 in the heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. However, junior pinch hitter Noah Everly’s sacrifice RBI, scored freshman second baseman Aaron Garcia, and tied the game at 1.Bosco seized their chance to win it in the seventh.
Senior catcher Micah Taguiam, who scored the game-winning run, drew a lead off walk. Senior pinch hitter Carlos Barajas’ sacrifice bunt moved Taguiam over to second.Braves junior center fielder Miles Clark and Garcia drew consecutive two-out walks, which loaded the bases for James Clark’s game-winning hit.
Orange Lutheran senior pitcher Caden Miller, relieved junior pitcher Tristan Ramos and faced the final batter.Bosco freshman relief pitcher Brayden Krakowski picked up the win. He gave up three hits, one earned run, and two walks in two innings.
“I told them it was going to be a mentality game...
they stayed focused and really outstanding way to open up the brand new field,” St. John Bosco coach Andy Rojo said.Orange Lutheran (11-2, 0-1 Trinity League) was led by senior second baseman Wyatt Hanoian (Air Force commit), who hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
“It’s a typical Trinity League baseball game,” Orange Lutheran coach RJ Farrell said. “It’s going to come down to the end. They were able to execute in that last inning.
”Bosco senior pitcher Trevor Heishman, who signed with Memphis, began the game with consecutive walks to Orange Lutheran sophomore left fielder Ricardo Hurtado and junior catcher Brady Murrietta.Heishman settled in and got out of the top of the first when he struck out the Lancers No. 3, 4 and 5 hitters, senior center fielder Josiah Hartshorn (Texas A&M signee), junior right fielder Hamilton Friedberg and senior first baseman Noah Haros.
Orange Lutheran senior starting pitcher Colt Peterson had a quality outing. The Stanford signee allowed only four hits and one run, with no walks and three strikeouts in five innings.Heishman began the top of the second with two more strikeouts (five consecutive Ks) before Lancers junior third baseman Gavin Hottle, junior shortstop Trevor Deack and Hurtado drew three straight two-out walks.
Heishman got out of his second jam of the game by getting Murrietta to ground out to end the top of the second.The Memphis signee, who was relieved by Krakowski in the fourth, did not allow any hits or runs but gave up seven walks, had five strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings.Haros’ single in the top of the fifth, the Lancers first hit of the game, put runners on first and second with one out.
Hanoian delivered an RBI single, which scored Friedberg from second. The Lancers led 1-0.Bosco junior pitcher Aidan Dahlk, who went 1 2/3 innings, relieved Krakowski and inherited a runner on first base with one out.
Murrietta hit a double. Hartshorn was intentionally walked, which loaded the bases.However, Dahlk got Friedberg to hit into a double play, which kept it a 1-0 game.
Garcia hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth. Clark doubled, which put runners on second and third with no outs.Peterson was relieved by Ramos, who went 1 2/3 innings.
Ramos did not allow a hit but was awarded the loss after giving up one earned run and three walks. He struck out two batters.Everly’s sacrifice RBI, scored Garcia from third and tied the game 1.
