He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for health-related issues. As news of his passing broke, tributes began pouring in on social media, with fans and well-wishers remembering his contributions to cinema. One user on X wrote, “Director/actor SS Stanley has passed away.

April Maadhathil was one of my favourite movies," while another shared, “April Maadhathil, Pudhukottayilirundhu Saravanan, Mercury Pookal director #SSStanley passes away. May his soul rest in peace." SS Stanley’s final rites will be performed this evening at the Valasaravakkam electric crematorium in Chennai, as reported by DT Next.

. Stanley’s journey in films began under the mentorship of legendary directors like Mahendran and Sasi. He spent over a decade honing his craft as an assistant director before finally making his directorial debut in 2002 with April Maadhathil, a youthful campus romance starring Srikanth and Sneha that became a box-office hit and earned him praise for his storytelling.

He followed this with Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan (2004), headlined by Dhanush. Though the film received mixed reviews, Stanley believed it was a case of the narrative being misunderstood by the audience. He continued to pursue fresh stories and even began a new film with Ravi Krishna and Sonia Agarwal, but the project ran into financial trouble and was ultimately shelved.

Stanley reunited with Srikanth for Mercury Pookkal and directed Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai in 2006 — his last film as a director, which unfortunately failed to make an impact at the box office. After stepping back from direction, Stanley found a new path in front of the camera. He portrayed iconic roles, including C.

N. Annadurai in Periyar (2007), and went on to act in films like Raavanan, Andavan Kattalai, Sarkar, and most recently, Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja. In 2015, he was also attached to a project titled Adam’s Apple, under AR Murugadoss’s banner, though it never took off.

May his soul rest in peace!.
