1 2 3 Pune: Commuters in the city can expect some improvement in vehicular flow at the chronically congested SPPU Chowk soon, as the Aundh to E-Square Chowk wing of the flyover being built at the spot is set to open by May 1. Announcing the development on Friday, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole added that the two other wings of the flyover, catering to traffic for the Baner and Pashan roads, will take some more time and are expected to be ready by Aug this year. Emphasising that the flyover will be launched in a phased manner, Shirole said, "We will not wait for completion of the entire project before opening it up for use.

The stretches will become available immediately after they are ready. Traffic from Aundh-Bremen Chowk towards E-Square Chowk can use the flyover from May 1 onwards." The commencement of the Aundh-Shivajinagar wing is likely to improve traffic movement here to some extent.

The traffic police department last week opened up the section from SPPU Chowk to Shivajinagar on Ganeshkhind Road for vehicles. Shirole added that he recently discussed the progress of the flyover project with deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar and the opening of one wing for commuters in May. He asserted that work on the flyover project has been accelerated, adding, "We are monitoring the progress on a weekly basis.

" Construction of the SPPU Chowk flyover has been underway along with work on the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line for years now. Around 70% of the work on the line has been completed so far, officials said. New MSRTC bus terminus Shirole also spoke about the progress of another key project — the construction of MSRTC's Shivajinagar bus terminus — and said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between MSRTC and Maha Metro in the next 15 days.

"Discussions are underway on the facilities to be provided at the reconstructed terminus. Both transport corporations are finalising the plan," he shared. Improving CCTV network According to the MLA, he took up the issue of strengthening CCTV surveillance across Pune during the recent state assembly session.

"Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to call a meeting in May to discuss a comprehensive plan for the CCTV network for Pune. There are around 10,000 functional CCTVs in the city belonging to various agencies; however, 10,000 more cameras are required to improve vigilance," he said.
