SPORTS DIGEST: LaPorte wins girls golf sectional; Marquette Catholic advance to regional

LaPorte won its sectional on Friday. Marquette Catholic's Madison Najar posted the day's lowest score to help the Blazers advance to the regional round.

LaPorte wins sectional: It was a low day for LaPorte on Friday. The Slicers posted a team score of 397 — 14 strokes better than the next-best mark — to win the LaPorte Sectional. The Slicer were led by Anna Menne's 94.

A 96 by Adley Schable and a 98 by Dana McQuarters bolstered the team's scores. Marquette Catholic edged out New Prairie by a single stroke for the third and final regional qualifying position. The Blazers' Madison Najar posted the lowest individual score of the day with an 89.



Michigan City finished in fifth with a 467. South Central finished in eighth with a 510, Tri-Township in ninth with a 535 and Westville in 10th with a 542. MEN'S BASKETBALL MVC announces schedule: The Missouri Valley Conference unveiled its men's basketball schedules on Friday.

Valparaiso will begin its 20-game conference slate with a home game against Drake on Dec. 4. The MVC Tournament is set to tip off on March 6 and run through March 9.
