Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has announced that the next Malawi Sport Awards will be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi District on February 28 2025. MNCS Board Member Gladson Kuyeri made the announcement at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre Thursday. Kuyeri said the awards would be held under the theme ‘Celebrating Sporting Excellence’.
He said the black-tie event would be an improved version of previous award ceremonies. “This year, we have taken the awards to Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from BICC [Bingu International Convention Centre] in Lilongwe. Since inception of the awards, we have been using technical people in the selection of winners.
But this time, things will be different because we will use the public vote, meaning the one with the highest votes will win,” Kuyeri said. Chairperson for the event, Limbani Matola, who is MNCS Director of Marketing and Infrastructure Development, said the awards would have 14 categories. “We will have reputable judges and all the 40 sport associations will choose whoever they think was outstanding in the year 2024.
We will then have a screening process for the nominees where three will be shortlisted. “We would like to ask the private sector and individuals to be part of this colourful event, where they will not only be sponsors, but also get more mileage in the goods and services known to their customers,” he said This year’s nomination of the awardees starts on November 20 and runs up to December 26. This will be followed by the shortlisting of nominees from December 26 to 28.
There will then be an adjudication stage from December 29 to 30 before a selection process from January 2 to 4. Public voting will commence on January 10 for 10 days, with aggregation taking place between February 22 and 23.
