Kyreece Lisbie says the spirit at Colchester United is 'really high' as they chase a League Two play-off place. Lisbie made his debut as a substitute at Newport County on Saturday, as U's claimed a 2-0 win thanks to late goals from Fiacre Kelleher and Anthony Scully. And the 21-year-old could barely contain his excitement after victory left Danny Cowley's men one point behind Grimsby.
He said: "It's amazing, the spirit in the group is really high at the minute. "I feel like we deserved it, chances were coming, it was just taking it when it came and that's exactly what the boys did. "It's an amazing feeling, these are moments I dreamt of as a kid, playing professional football.
"It's an undescribable feeling to have made my professional debut and hoping I can continue with many more for this team. "I even got an elbow in the face in the celebrations! But it was worth it, amazing scenes, brilliant result." Lisbie joined U's from Brentford back in January and enjoyed a good loan spell at National League side Braintree Town.
And having been recalled at the start of the week, he was delighted to get his chance as he replaced Oscar Thorn midway through the second half at Rodney Parade. He added: "When I've seen the atmosphere for the first time, being a part of it, knowing I could possibly come on and then when I get the call from Danny saying I'm coming on everything just felt surreal. "It was a childhood dream to make my professional debut.
Now it's finally here it doesn't feel real at the minute. Hopefully I'll go home with my family and it will sink in." Lisbie might even have capped his debut with a goal as he joined the injury-time counter-attack which saw Owura Edwards tee up fellow substitute Scully to score.
But he was more happy for the team, adding: "It was a four-v-one. I didn't realise there was four of us waiting in the box. "I did think so [might get a tap-in] with four of us waiting in the box, but he's finished it off superbly and hopefully the goal comes soon but what a result.
" Grimsby let a two-goal lead slip in the last five minutes of their match at Harrogate, allowing U's to close the gap with their late double. But Lisbie says he will not worry about other results as he looks to emulate dad Kevin in the closing weeks of the season. He said: "The message from Danny and the staff is to just worry about ourselves.
"If we carry on getting wins, eventually everything will fall into place. "We're not too worried about other people. Obviously we need results to go our way, but as long as we do what we need to do, I'm sure everything will work out for us.
"I grew up watching my dad play in these play-offs, for Leyton Orient, now I'm a part of it, it feels surreal. "It's a crazy moment, growing up watching Colchester, watching my dad play and now I'm part of Colchester in a play-off push. "It's a full circle moment but the job is not done yet.
Hopefully we can get this team promoted to League One.".
