Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Chapter of SPIC MACAY today organized a heritage walk titled “Purane Jammu Ke Mandiron Ki Kahani” to showcase the region’s cultural heritage through its historic temples. The event aimed to connect participants, especially the youth, with the traditions and architectural marvels of Jammu’s ancient temples. A statement said around 200 participants took part in the walk, which began at Sardaron Ka Mandir, Panjtirthi.

Students from various institutions such as Panjvaktra Mahadev Ved Vidharthi Gurukul, Oriental Academy, GCW Parade College, University of Jammu, and Central Sanskrit University were joined by Scouts and Guides volunteers, scholars, teachers, and historians. The walk covered several temples, including Radha Krishna Temple, Satyanarayan Temple, Gadadhar Mandir, and Shri Ram Mandir. It concluded at Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir, Jammu’s oldest temple.



During the walk, each temple’s history was explained, shedding light on Jammu’s rich cultural and architectural legacy. Suresh Kumar Sharma, Retired Judge and Convenor of SPIC MACAY’s J&K unit, emphasized the importance of such events in connecting the youth to their cultural roots. He shared that more heritage walks and cultural events are planned to continue engaging young people.

Deepak Kumar, a prominent theatre personality associated with SPIC MACAY, shared insights into the history and significance of the temples. He highlighted their architectural beauty and the cultural traditions they represent. Mukul Magotra, Curator of Dogra Art Museum, and Ajay Khajuria, Professor of Practice at MIET, also contributed by providing additional context on the art and architecture of the temples.

Their input enriched the experience for the participants. The walk ended with a soulful bhajan performance by renowned classical singer Pankaj Pradhan, creating a spiritual atmosphere at Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir. The event also included a tribute to Comrade Dhanwantri, a freedom fighter from Jammu.

His story was shared with the participants, inspiring them to cherish their cultural and patriotic heritage. Prominent participants included Deepak Sharma, Harminder Sharma, Rajinder Gupta, Jagmohan Gupta, Ravi Kant Khajuria, Raj Kumar Behrupia, S Amarjeet Singh, Dr Vikas Padha, Prof Sachin Gupta, Yogesh Sharma, Ashok Sharma, Ashish Sharma, Gourav Gupta, and Anil Gupta..
