New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed the chief secretary to organise special camps through relevant departments to help beneficiaries access the newly-launched ‘Sasta Ghar' housing scheme by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). This initiative offers a 25% discount on housing for specific segments of society, including construction workers, auto/taxi drivers, women, Vir Nari, ex-servicemen, gallantry awardees, Divyangjans, and members of the SC/ST communities. "In response, the Delhi Building and Other Construction Welfare Boards will set up camps at various construction sites, including those of DMRC, NCRTC, CPWD, NHAI, and others, prioritising workers, labourers, jhuggi dwellers, and renters," said Raj Niwas officials.
Special outreach programmes will also be conducted for Vir Nari, ex-servicemen, and gallantry/Arjuna awardees through the Rajya Sainik Board. The Transport Department will run awareness campaigns and organise camps for auto/taxi drivers at the Burari unit. Additionally, the Delhi Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation will offer loans to SC/ST applicants.
The Department of Women and Child Development has been tasked with setting up camps to encourage women's participation in the scheme, said the official. Special camps for street vendors, SC/ST members, and persons with disabilities will be organized by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, SC/ST Department, and the Department of Social Welfare, respectively. DDA officers will be present at each camp to provide detailed information and assistance, with nodal officers from the relevant departments on-site.
According to officials, camps started functioning from Saturday, and the departments have been asked to submit a report of the outreach programs through the Chief Secretary within 15 days for the LG's perusal..
