A three-year-old sprocker spaniel called Reggie was out in Turf Hill in Fordingbridge on Saturday, April 5 when he was bitten by an adder. As a spaniel, he was wandering around with his nose down and wandered towards a nearby bush where the snake was sunbathing. Reggie's owner Sue Hillman, 61, said: "He was bleeding from the mouth and had massive swelling on his face and down into his chest.

"I was really worried about him and took him straight to the vet, who were great and stuck him on a drip right away. He was then moved to the overnight vets in Salisbury and stayed the weekend. We picked him up on Sunday lunchtime and he is now slowly getting better.

" Sue and Reggie live in Downton but they are with Forest Veterinary Clinic who are based in Fordingbridge and Ringwood. This news comes after Forest Veterinary Clinic announced their . They have provided some advice for owners and they said: "The symptoms of an adder bite include fast bruising and swelling which rapidly spreads, you sometimes may not see the puncture marks.

"If you have any suspicions that your dog has been bitten by an adder please keep your dog still and calm as excitement and moving around spreads the venom, carrying your dog back to the car if possible and call ASAP to be seen at your local branch.".
