It’s taken a long time to get here, but after an almost two year hiatus, with brand-new episodes that will finally bring season 5 to a close. Part 2 of the season kicked off its premiere on Sunday, November 10, which finds the Dutton family without their stoic patriarch and more at odds than ever before—which given this family’s history of toxic, inter-family drama is really saying something. And while initially it felt like the show’s fifth season would serve as its swan song—given , various production delays, and other —it’s possible that a sixth season of could still happen.
Because much like the Duttons themselves, this series doesn’t go down without a fight, y’all. Though Paramount Network has yet to comment on the matter or officially renew the series, reports indicate that are underway and would center around the characters of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). For some, this may sound surprising, given that both actors had originally been in talks to star in an upcoming sequel series .
However, it appears that show has now been and will star Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox. But as they say, when one door closes, another one opens, so if this clears Reilly and Hauser’s schedules for more season 6 content, then so be it. Unfortunately, nothing is guaranteed when it comes to the future of until Paramount Network officially gives it the greenlight.
But it’s worth noting that the teaser for season 5B made no indication that this would serve as the final chapter to the story—something you’d think they’d capitalize on to amp up audience anticipation. So the fact that they didn’t could prove promising. Hauser has circled around discussing the show’s future (and his role in it), recently telling the that it’s been “one hell of a run,” which admittedly has a certain ring of finality to it.
Yet, in the same interview, he also admitted that he would absolutely jump at the chance to continue Beth and Rip’s story. “You can go on forever about these two,” Hauser told . “There’s no walls when it comes to them, no limits.
As long as Taylor wants to write something special, I know Kelly and I would be interested to do it.” So that’s not a firm yes, but it’s also notably not a no either. Regardless, it’s clear that a potential season 6 is at least on their radar and not something they’d be quick to rule out—that is, assuming their characters make it out of current season alive.
But as Sunday’s premiere more than proved, on a show like , no one’s safety is a guarantee. Time to Grab Your Saddle, We're Heading Over to the 'Yellowstone' Ranch..
