South Torrance wrestling finishes with five medalists at Spartan Kickoff Classic

South Torrance wrestling finishes sixth at Spartan Kickoff Classic

The South Torrance wrestling team finished in sixth place and had five medalists in the season-opening Spartan Kickoff Classic Saturday. The Spartans posted 145.5 points.

Heavyweight Leonardo Battulga won his weight class for South. He won three matches by fall and finished with a 10-5 decision in the finals against Tannor Costello of Millikan. Caden Garriott (126) and Kyle DaNobrega (150) were also finalists for South.



Garriott won three matches to advance to the final, where he lost to St. John Bosco’s Sean Wilcox. DaNobrega won four matches (two by fall, one tech fall and one decision) to advance to the finals.

He lost to St. John Bosco’s Sergio Gomez in the final. Sawyer Ross (113) and Robert Crowe (215) both finished fifth in their weight class.

North’s Quentin Barros Santiago was fourth at 120 pounds and Mason Barros Santiago was third at 126. Mira Costa’s Teagan McRae placed sixth at 138 pounds..
