Similar to ChatGPT, the popular AI service developed by OpenAI, this new platform allows users to engage in chat-based interactions to query military regulations and terminology. The ministry expects the service to boost operational efficiency by offering specialized military translations and document summarization capabilities. Initially, the service will be available to staff at the Defense Ministry and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The defense-oriented AI has already been trained on approximately 400,000 military documents, with plans to incorporate over 600,000 additional documents in the future. To address concerns about potential misinformation, a common critique of generative AI, the ministry stated that the system includes an indexing feature that provides sources for its responses. “This AI service represents a significant step forward in modernizing our defense operations,” a ministry spokesperson said.

“It will streamline processes and enhance decision-making capabilities across our defense infrastructure.” The ministry has designated July 3 to 10 as “Defense Data and AI Promotion Week.
