The letter, signed by Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, APC National Vice Chairman, South East, expressed gratitude to the President for the developmental efforts directed towards the South East, including the approval of the SEDC.

However, the South East APC, in the letter, voiced concerns regarding the composition of the Commission’s board and management, stating that the appointments did not align with the Act that established the Commission. The party accused the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, of misleading the President into making a biased appointment, with five of his personal staff selected, while representatives from Imo and Ebonyi were overlooked. Additionally, some House of Representatives members have alleged that the Deputy Speaker has ulterior motives by placing five of his staff in a single organization.

Speaking anonymously for other members, one lawmaker remarked that the Deputy Speaker disregarded the collective advice of his colleagues and the party, which had aimed for an equitable distribution of positions among the five South East states, in accordance with the Commission’s Act. The South APC further alleged that two other persons appointed into the Commission were from an opposition party, when there are numerous qualified technocrats from the ruling party. The letter noted that the development may discourage supporters of the APC in the South East.

The South East APC appealed to the President to review the nominations and address the matter by ensuring compliance with the Act.
