Furniture Superstore founders Jim Sather and Mark Byer , who are retiring, bought the building from John Menard Jr. for $5.09 million in 2015.

It had housed a Menards home improvement store until Menards built a new north store. A retirement sale is underway at the Furniture Superstore to clear the store of its inventory to make way for the Furniture Mart product line. The selection is expected to be very similar to Furniture Superstore offerings.

Furniture Superstore’s history in Rochester started in 2003, when Sather opened the Furniture Superstore Factory Outlet at 3185 41st St. NW. In 2005, he partnered with Byer to open America's Mattress at 4408 U.

S. Highway 52. The duo took over the former Menards complex and combined the Furniture Superstore and America’s Best Mattress under the roof of the sprawling complex.

They described the resulting retail center as the area’s largest furniture and mattress store. ADVERTISEMENT.
