LOS ANGELES — A look at some talking points after the Huskers' game vs. USC on Saturday. From USC's postgame news conference Coach Lincoln Riley on QB Jayden Maiava: "He did a good job kind of staying in the moment.

He got on himself on (the early pick-six) and then certainly on the fumble later in the game, but then he was able to mentally get past it." Riley on the blocked field goal: "We got to look at. Obviously, it's been an issue that we've got to correct, so we've emphasized it a lot, we've worked a lot, but we obviously just have to do a better job at it.

Riley on a flu outbreak within team: "No, yeah, we've had a lot of people under the weather. There's honestly more that are than not, so our building looked like a little bit of a mash unit the last couple of days, so no, hopefully we can get some of these guys healthy from that. What other media outlets are saying: The USC Trojans and Nebraska Cornhuskers have been two of the most disappointing teams in college football this season.

Mostly thanks to their remarkable inability to close out games in the fourth quarter when the score is tight. And as mediocre teams, they frequently manage to find themselves in close games late in the fourth quarter. Sure enough, who would have ever guessed, Saturday's game between the two new Big Ten rivals wound up being a close game late in the fourth quarter.

USC started Jayden Maiava at quarterback, essentially throwing a Hail Mary and replacing Miller Moss after a disastrous 4-5 start to the 2024 season. Nebraska's Dylan Raiola returned from injury in time to start, providing a lift for a Cornhuskers team desperate to stop a losing streak. It was as chaotic as you'd expect.

— Ian Miller, OutKick What the fans and others are saying on Twitter/X: @HuskerWave: Matt Rhule is a great person, a great recruiter, and I am glad he is leading our guys...

...

however...

. I would give him a D- so far in his coaching Wyatt Mazour: Yet another missed blatant game-changing penalty..

but hey, at least we’ll get a very sincere apology from the Big Ten tomorrow. Rinse and Repeat @CFBONFOX: There was a lot of contact on that final play for Nebraska AdamCarriker94: Frustrated. @ESPNRittenberg: Just unforgivable by Nebraska.

This is why my 7-year-old daughter has never seen you play in a bowl game. @bbarney22: A timeout just to take a delay of game and punt I was dumbfounded @ulmer_alex: It’s been different players and coaches. The only explanation is a curse.
