Bengaluru residents, majorly tech professionals, are protesting against the poor infrastructure - bad roads, leaking sewage, increasing dust - in the city. Taking to creative ways to get the attention of the government, the residents made up songs, outlined potholes with rangoli powder and wore T-shirts printed with demands. Residents of the Panathur-Balagere area, close to the busy Outer Ring Road, where the majority of tech companies are housed in the city, protested on Saturday.

The crowd was singing songs with changed lyrics on classic Kannada hits. “Road Super, Gundi(ditch) Danger” was one of the songs. The printed T-shirts read, “I paid taxes for a road, not for a roller coaster,” “Rebate tax, we will build our roads.

” The protesters even outlined some of the potholes in the area with rangoli powder. The protest was held by the Individual Tax Payers Forum in the city, which is a representative forum of individual taxpayers in India which aims to work for the welfare of the taxpayers. The group is questioning the government on where the tax money is going, while the Bengaluru residents do not have basic necessities of good roads.

Dhananjaya Padmanabhachar, Founder of Individual Taxpayers Forum said, “Bengaluru probably has the maximum individual tax payers, but what are we getting back in return from the government. A good road, footpath, transportation system is the basic expectation we have, which the government time and again failed to provide.” The protest held was symbolic to highlight the issues again and hold the government accountable for their inaction.

The issue with the particular road where protests were held was brought up before as well, accidents have also occurred because of the bad condition but there has not been any action to improve, he added. Time and again the residents of Bengaluru have stepped out to protest for the basic infrastructure to improve in the city. Citizens regularly face inconveniences with bad roads, heavy traffic, water shortage, rising transportation cost and other issues.
