Talking at Somerset’s Media Day the head coach who has strong links with the county having previously held the same position with Western Storm said; “This is the first time I have been involved with anything like this apart from when I was working with Sidney Thunder. To see it organised so well and ran so smoothly is testament to the work that the commercial and media team have put in . “From a playing perspective it underlines the fact that we are a team of professional athletes.
This is part of our job and there is a real excitement and a buzz because it signifies that the cricket season is just around the corner.” READ MORE: Jack Leach: Refreshed and ready for action READ MORE: Somerset looking to get themselves into trophy-winning positions again in 2025 As head coach what have been some of the challenges that he has had to address in the moths he has been working with the Somerset squad? “Yes we are a young team and there isn’t the structure that the men have. My challenge to the coaching unit has been as to how we can up-skill the players about how to play the game without physically having the games to play in “We have been quite creative in the winter training and that’s been the biggest challenge.
For some of those in the squad this is their first job, so what does work mean and the importance of that. How do they look after themselves - they haven’t had the education about rest, recovery sleep, nutrition and checking in with the physio etc so it’s been a real education for them.” How available would Somerset’s international players be this season? “We are working with the England Cricket Board to get clarity around player availability but bearing in mind that the West Indies series isn’t until May I am feeling confident that we will see Heather (Knight) and Charlie (Dean) early on.
” On Thursday the Somerset women’s squad flew out to Sharjah for a 10 day training camp where after three months in the Centre of Excellence they would get the chance to work outside and practice on grass. The head coach added: “When we come back from Sharjah we will be fresh and ready to go for the summer ahead. Then five days later we have got our first practice game against Glamorgan so we are within touching distance which all very excited about.
