Some women voters allege bogus voting

Ludhiana: While many residents had to struggle to find their names in the voters’ list in the recently held MC polls, some, on reaching the polling station, were shocked to know that someone else had already cast the votes on their behalf. Many women were seen asking the officials present at the booths to let them cast their franchise and also showed their fingers that did not have any ink mark. They, however, had to leave disappointed.

Neetu, a resident of Tajganj area of ward No. 82, had gone to booth No. 129 to cast her vote for the municipal corporation elections.



She went to the polling booth at around 11am, but was shocked to know that someone else had already voted there on her behalf. “I showed them my hand that bore no ink mark , but the booth officials did not listen to me. Hours later, I returned to the polling booth as some polling agent informed me about the option of a tender vote.

I again went to the polling booth, but I was denied the right to tender vote also. I came back home disappointed,” she added. Neetu said another woman from their locality was also unable to cast her vote as someone else had done it on her behalf.

Similarly, another resident of Tajganj Pooja said she along with her husband had gone to booth No. 129 of ward No. 82 to vote.

Her husband was able to cast his vote, but she was told that her vote was already been given. As TOI took up the matter with district electoral officer (DEO) Jitendre Jorwal said the Pooja was allowed tender vote later on.Jorwal said, “There is a provision for tendered vote when people claim that bogus vote had been cast on their behalf.
