Nintendo has offered some insight into the pricing structure for the Switch 2 Editions of certain Switch games. Speaking to IGN , Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America’s VP of product and player experience, confirmed that those who own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch will be able to purchase US$9.99 (about C$14.
20) “Upgrade Packs” for their corresponding Switch 2 Editions. The company announced the Upgrade Packs last week, but this is the first time official U.S.
pricing has been confirmed. It should be noted, however, that Trinen only specifically mentioned the Zelda games. Some other games, like Super Mario Party Jamboree! and Kirby and the Forgotten Land , will also get special Switch 2 Editions.
Presumably, these will also cost US$9.99, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. We’ve contacted Nintendo of Canada to confirm pricing for the upgrade packs (as well as Switch 2 games) and will update this story once we receive a response.
That said, Nintendo has confirmed that Switch Online + Expansion Pack members will receive free upgrade packs. On top of technical improvements like increased fidelity and frame rate, the Switch 2 Editions of both Zelda games are notable because they add special “Zelda Notes” Nintendo Switch app functionality like GPS navigation, sharable construct blueprints and more. Meanwhile, Kirby and the Forgotten Land on Switch 2 receives a new Star-Crossed World expansion , while Super Mario Party Jamboree! gets a “Jamboree TV” add-on that introduces USB camera modes, among other additions.
While these meatier upgraded versions will be offered at a premium, Nintendo has also confirmed that several Switch games will receive free updates on Switch 2 to improve their technical performance: Arms Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics Game Builder Garage The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Pokemon Scarlet Pokemon Violet Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo hasn’t detailed exact upgrades for each game as they may “differ,” but it does say that, in general, they’ll “improve playability” and “may improve performance or add support for features such as GameShare in select games.
