FAIRFIELD – The Solano Resource Conservation District is offering two free online workshops and one in-person workshop on how to create backyard Monarch butterfly habitats. It can take as little as 100 square feet. "Monarch butterfly populations have declined by 95% in the past decade, primarily due to habitat loss and lack of food resources.
You can help by providing these resources in your backyard! As a bonus, plants that support Monarchs also benefit other pollinators like honey bees and bumble bees," organizers said in a statement. The online workshops are April 24, 7 to 8 p.m.
, and May 14th, 7 to 8 p.m. Both are on Zoom.
The in-person workshop is May 3, location and other details will be made available after registering to attend. Each workshop will cover the natural history and life cycle of Monarch butterflies; the essential plants Monarchs need to thrive; and how to properly install and manage those plants for the benefit of butterflies. Monarch butterfly populations have declined by 95% in the past decade, primarily due to habitat loss and lack of food resources.
