Solano County officials advise residents to be prepared ahead of expected strong winds

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Officials across Solano County are asking community members to remain vigilant and monitor weather conditions as strong winds are forecast through Friday. Some areas of the county include homes that may experience those mandated PG&E power shutoffs due to the hazardous conditions.

Officials are asking all residents, whether they are slated for a scheduled power shutoff or not, to be prepared to lose power in the event of possible downed trees or power lines. “We just want to make sure that residents are aware, and they're prepared,” said Bill Way, a spokesperson for the city of Fairfield. “We want them outage ready.



” Way encouraged residents to charge devices and vehicles, to be aware of perishable food items and to subscribe to the county’s emergency alert system. With the increased fire danger, officials in Fairfield have closed three of its parks to visitors. Rockville Hills Regional Park, Spyglass Open Space and Rolling Hills Open Space will be closed starting at 11 p.

m. on Thursday through Sunday morning. Potions of Northern California are under a red flag warning due to the wind and dry conditions.

The Solano County Office of Emergency Services opened two resource centers for impacted customers at the Green Valley Country Club and at Solano Community College. During this weather event, Fairfield Fire Marshal Steven Conti said communication is key. “These warnings can never be highlighted enough,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we've had past history of tragic events and just everybody, please pay attention to the messages that come out, whether it's through the county or your local fire department, Fairfield Fire. They're serious.” He said even into October, community members need to continue fire mitigation around their properties.
