The Sokoto State government is digitalising Wamakko Orthopaedic Hospital for proper record keeping and better service delivery. The health commissioner, Dr Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, disclosed this when he led the ministry’s directors on an inspection visit to the hospital. Dr Abubakar said this was to ensure that records of patients visiting the hospital are well captured, as he observed during his recent visit that proper records of the hospital’s activities were unavailable.

The commissioner also issued a one-month ultimatum to the hospital’s management to use the renovated amenity and main theatre room, which had been abandoned for over ten years. He also directed the director of medical services of the ministry to send bioengineers to take inventory of all the hospital’s available equipment. Dr Faruku Wurno also charged the hospital’s CMD to ensure that staff members are punctual to justify their salaries.

According to him, the ministry would not condone laxity and absconding from duty, hence the need for attitudinal change. The commissioner assured of the state government’s readiness to improve the hospital’s services, given its significance to the people of Sokoto and other neighbouring states. In his address, the hospital’s chief medical director, Dr Abdulkadir Jelani Mu’azu, promised to investigate all the commissioner’s observations.
