The Sokoto State Government has cautioned residents against making inflammatory and sensational remarks capable of undermining ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the state. The warning was issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security, Col. Ahmed Usman (Rtd), in response to a statement credited to one Basharu Altine Guyawa.

Giyawa, the convener of the Movement for Social Justice in Nigeria, was said to have cast doubts on the government’s commitment to security, an allegation the state government described as misleading and counterproductive. Col. Usman noted that such statements could dampen public morale and discourage recognition of the significant strides made by both the government and security operatives in the fight against banditry and kidnapping.

“As His Excellency emphasises, security is a collective responsibility. The government cannot succeed without the active support and collaboration of the citizenry,” the adviser stated. He urged the public to “resist the urge to politicise security issues, stressing that constructive engagement and community cooperation remain key factors to restoring lasting peace.

” In recent months, the Sokoto State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, has launched multiple joint operations in troubled areas, particularly in the eastern axis of the state. Arewa PUNCH reports that Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has also invested heavily in logistical and financial support to security agencies. This includes the restoration of monthly allowances previously halted by the past administration, as well as the donation of hundreds of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to boost operational efficiency. The government has also initiated regular stakeholder engagement platforms, bringing together security operatives, community leaders, and traditional institutions to exchange ideas and strategies.

These meetings, officials say, have contributed to a noticeable decline in attacks and general improvement in the state’s security outlook. Meanwhile, Guyawa, who recently criticised the government had in February this year, presented an award of excellence to Governor Aliyu, commending his administration’s efforts in maintaining peace and security. During the award presentation at the Government House, Sokoto, Guyawa reportedly acknowledged the government’s decisive interventions and their positive impact in curbing insecurity.
