The Sokoto State Government has intensified efforts to revive moribund industries across the state. Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this when he received members of the Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture on a Sallah homage on Wednesday. He reaffirmed his commitment to industrial revitalisation as a means of tackling unemployment and boosting economic growth.

Aliyu lamented the collapse of several industries that once thrived in the state, including ceramics, tannery, furniture, and fertiliser blending plants, which played a significant role in job creation and revenue generation. “To ensure economic revival, our administration is implementing policies that facilitate doing business and create a conducive environment for investors,” Aliyu stated. He stressed that the government was open to partnerships with interested investors to breathe life into the abandoned industries.

The governor also highlighted his administration’s proactive steps in providing key infrastructure for industrialisation, particularly through quality road construction and the completion of the Sokoto Independent Power Plant project. Once completed, he said the IPP would enhance the electricity supply, thus boosting industrial and business activities in the state. The governor urged SOCCIMA to actively promote Sokoto’s vast potential in agriculture, mining, trade, and commerce to attract local and foreign investors.

He assured the chamber of his administration’s unwavering support in transforming Sokoto into a thriving business hub. The SOCCIMA President, Alhaji Muazu Maaji, lauded the governor’s developmental strides, particularly the ongoing urban renewal programme that had significantly improved the state’s infrastructure and investment appeal. He expressed confidence that the initiatives would make Sokoto a prime destination for business and industrial growth.
