Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at around 8.50am, and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Trains were cancelled between Bury St Edmunds and Ely while emergency services carried out their work. National Rail said the line has reopened but estimates that disruption will continue until 1pm. A MAGPAS air ambulance was sent to the scene, alongside a road ambulance, a paramedic car and two Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Soham railway station at 8.48am today (12 March) to reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner." Fire crews from Ely and Newmarket were called to the scene to support British Transport Police, but no firefighting was needed.
