Soha Ali Khan recently spoke about her brother Saif Ali Khan’s recovery after he was attacked with a knife in a shocking incident on January 16 at his Bandra home. She assured that Saif is doing well now but recalled how the traumatic event deeply unsettled their entire family. In a later interview with News18 Showsha, Soha reflected on the state of the world, expressing concern over her seven-year-old daughter Inaaya Naumi Kemmu’s safety.
Soha shared, “Once you become a parent, you don’t get a proper night’s sleep ever again. You’re constantly anxious. Is she sleeping too little? Is she sleeping too much? I’m anyway anxiety-ridden and if you’re a mother to a girl child, then you’ve more concerns.
We don’t want to over-protect or over-parent. You don’t want to not be there or want those awful things – god forbid – to happen to your child. It’s very difficult to be a parent in today’s generation and especially with social media being there.
” Soha, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Chhorii 2 , which explores issues like patriarchy, female infanticide, motherhood, and the safety of girl children, added, “I’ve always felt that it’s perilous to be a woman in India – right from the time you’re conceived to when you’re widowed. If you’re born into the wrong family or a wrong part of India or into a family with a wrong mindset, it’s perilous. Not all of India is in the 21st century.
” However, Soha is quick to clarify that she didn’t choose Chhorii 2 solely for its social message. She acknowledges having led a largely ‘protected life’ and admits that working on the film has opened her eyes to harsh realities faced by others. She stated, “My life is definitely very protected but because I’ve travelled due to my line of work, I’ve managed to interact with people from so many different backgrounds.
Doing such films has exposed me to a whole different world. And that has forced me to walk in someone else’s shoe or be barefoot in this case.” In Chhorii 2 , Soha takes on the role of a dark and sinister cult leader—a stark departure from her usual characters.
Reflecting on the experience, she said, “It’s important to open your eyes to a different world after having lived a protected life. Imagine what life could potentially be like if you’re on this side or that side! Often there’s a reason why you become evil. Nobody is born evil although Nushrratt (Bharuccha; her Chhorii 2 co-star) knows a few people who’re born evil!” Soha's intense, never-seen-before look in the film even took her family—Kunal Kemmu, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Saba Ali Khan—by surprise.
Reacting to her striking look in the film, Soha laughed and said, “This is how I look at 8 pm when my daughter hasn’t gone to bed and I go, ‘What do I do? How do I make this child fall asleep?’ This is genuinely me on most days.” Chhorii 2 is scheduled to release on April 11 on Prime Video.
